The IITB-Monash Research Academy is a joint venture between the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Monash University, Australia that aims at enhancing research collaborations between Australia and India. The Academy is located at the Powaii campus of IIT Bombay, India.
The Academy invites applications from interested aspirants for this joint venture PhD program.
The application portal is open till September 13, 2015. Desirous students can apply online at the IITB-Monash website.

The PhD program:
Students enrolled in the IITB-Monash PhD program will be based at the Powaii campus of IIT Bombay, India. They would be spending 3-12 months of their PhD candidature at the Monash University, Australia.
The students will be co-supervised by two research faculties, one from IITB and the other from Monash University. The duration of their stay will vary upon the requirements of their research project.
Research themes:
The research themes at IITB-Monash research academy is designed keeping in mind the areas of growing global significance.
Following are the research themes, currently tailored for the PhD program:
- Advanced Computational Engineering, Simulation and Manufacture
- Infrastructure Engineering
- Clean Energy
- Water
- Nanotechnology
- Biotechnology and Stem Cell Research
Admission requirements:
- First class or equivalent in Master's degree in Engineering/Technology (M.Eng/M.Tech); or
- First class Master's degree in Science (M.Sc); or
- First class Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / Science and a valid GATE score
Scholarships/Funding:
Students admitted into this joint PhD program will avail the following funding opportunities:
- Rs 3.72 lakhs (~5605 USD) per annum for the first two years (In India)
- Rs 4.20 lakhs (~6330 USD) per annum for the next two years (In India)
- A grant of up to A$25,850 per annum in Australia
The student gets a chance to study a minimum of one year in Australia for his/her research and is co-supervised by a research faculty from Monash University. What's more, the student is waived off his/her International student tuition fees at Monash University.

Before beginning your application, make sure to read the FAQs
- The very first step of the application is to fill in and submit your Expression of Interest(EOI) form online. Post submission, your EOI will be evaluated for your academic background, your research interests etc and if found suitable, you will receive an email indicating you to proceed further.
- The next step is to download and fill in your Form A. This form contains a unique Form A Number (FAN). You will need the FAN number to upload your Form A online. At this stage you will need to upload your transcripts, certificates, publications and make a selection of your research projects.
To view the current projects, go to the Academy's website and click on Research Projects on the right side bar of the web page.
- Once your Form A has been evaluated and your candidature is found to be suitable, you will be called for an interview round of selection. This round consists of a test/quiz and a face to face interview.
Candidates shortlisted in this final round will be notified by email.
